88pin, JEIDA DRAM (360cs thinkpad)

#1 Post by my03 » Sun Aug 20, 2017 9:26 am

Hi,

Just bought and waiting for a 360cs to be delivered to me. It comes with 4mb.

When researching the model, i found out that i can take up to 16mb of memory (88pin jeida) and my question is basically: can this type of ram be sourced from somewhere still?

eBay has them. Newly manufactured ones, No.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Depending upon the BIOS version, you can install 32MB in the 360 family.

i found a few now on ebay and i assume this memory is of the "thick credit card" kind, correct? Almost lika a pcmcia, but not really....

When i searched around, i found that MemoryX apparently had them as well (at least they appeared to have them in their shop) so i purchased a 16mb card from them.

Of course, i've seen (and tried to order) other esoteric memory from them in the past (notably a 10mb module for my powerbook 180) but even if the order process went smooth, they returned a couple of days after, cancelling the order due to not having the module in stock anymore (then why advertise it??......).

Lets see how it goes. Should they not have it, then ebay is the way to go i guess.

thx all

Hi again,

re: what fultontech mentioned:

Is it still possible to find drivers (or mainly, the latest bios) for the older models (like the 360cs) somewhere?

Sure. There are links from here somewhere to the files at Lenovo, as well as 5-10 sites that made copies of IBM's PC FTP support directories before they went offline.
I think even the Internet Library has a zip file copy of the server for download

Thx heaps fultontech,

searched around here and found this nice link (repeating it here in case anyone else needs utils/drivers): http://john.ccac.rwth-aachen.de:8000/ft ... rg/pccbbs/

The 1.43 bios was located under "Mobile".

Specifically, the file you're looking for is SYTPS143.EXE. SYTPS143.TXT is the README. You'll also need a charged battery pack to do the BIOS upgrade. Contrary to popular belief, the HEX editor hacks for the 770 do not work on the 355/360/750/755C,CS machines (same BIOS update diskette for all).

As for the DRAM - save yourself some money and get this card:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-32MB-PC-Bus ... SwnHZYYc2I

Nice people here, but the listing has a big mistake. This is actually a KTM-TP370/32 equivalent. Meaning, it is a NON-PARITY card. It will work perfectly in your 360 (I know, because I have the same card in my 360 systems). It will NOT work in a 750 or 755. And you can't really beat 20 bucks, since the parity card sells for 50 and up (and your system won't be any better with the parity memory, since the memory on the system board planar is non-parity).

Oh, and as for other drivers, they're also on mirrors of the pccbbs, in the mobiles directory, as others said. If you grab the file 00index.txt, you can search for 360 in there and find the names of all the files you need to download (PCMCIA, sound if you have that option (didn't come with audio from the factory, but it will work), video, ThinkPad utilities, etc).
