Thinkpad 600X Problem

#1 Post by hjanzen » Wed Oct 25, 2017 8:34 am

Once in a while I take my old 600X laptop frpm the cupboard where it is sitting, and give it a start.
To-day it started as usual, windows XP came up, and I connected to internet with Firefox.
After about 5 minutes all of a sudden the there was a sound and the laptop shutted down completely.

Now, as I restart the laptop the following happens:
Memory is shown, then the IBM banner and then the Thinkpad banner, and then after a minute or so a soft soud like rrrrrrrr, and that is it.
It stays like that forever. Pushing any buttons like F1 (during startup) or F2 has no effect whatsoever.

Any suggestions??

Regards, Hans

Have you tried entering BIOS with RAM removed? If you can, try cleaning RAM slots with alcohol

Isopropyl alcohol for the laptop, or 90-proof gin or vodka for the user?
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

Umm....Imm trying to use the trackpoint and it goes everywhere. I put the alcohol in my memory slot, not the computers .
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
