Hi,

I have a 750C with W95, 2GB HDD and 20MB Ram and an external CD Rom drive. I am a novice so would appreciate any help.

Two questions, firstly someone here mentioned that the machine could cope with 256 display setting. I can only get 16bit colour, can anyone advise me what I'd need to do to upgrade to 256?

Also, what do I need to enable it to produce audio output? Or is that not something you can achieve with this machine?

Sorry for my ignorance!

Thanks anyhow.

I take it you have 16 color display, not 16 bit display. It can indeed display 256 colors and because it has 1MB of video RAM, it should be able to display 24-bit color, but I don't remember if it will. I have a 750P with a grayscale screen, so I never tried higher bit depths.

You need the DOS VESA video driver to get this to work.

Similarly, to get audio to work, you need the DOS audio driver. It works with DOS, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. In DOS, you can even capture audio at CD rates! I think it has a very good sound card (in terms of audio quality), but a poor speaker.

I have all the latest drivers (as such) for the 750 series. Let me know if you'd like copies.

I've been trying to get Linux and FreeDOS running, but maybe I could spend a little time getting W95 tuned as well.

Thanks Whizkid!

As recently reported by James, some of the old drivers are back.

Here's the page for the 750 and 755:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-60440

It has Audio, BIOS, PCMCIA and Video drivers for DOS and Win3.1. There is a Win95 INF file.

Note that I am using vftps133, but they have posted vwtpe122 as the latest driver. It probably includes more machines. Try that one, and let me know if it doesn't work for you. I'll send you this one.

I also have the 750 Maintenance diskette, version 1.10 if you're interested.

Thanks
