I'm buying a Thinkpad 701C and 240Z. What's a fair price?

I'm about to buy these two laptops for my collection, both seems to be in fair conditions (80%, minor scuffs/scratches, CMOS battery gone, battery only god knows in which conditions it is) and working order, the 701C for 140$ and the 240Z for 95$. Are they worth it? I know the prices for the 5-10 years old ones as there are many listings, but I have non idea about these. Thanks

In my opinion, the fair price is higher for both machines, as long as neither is complete junk (80% quality sounds rather good).

I envy your luck with pricing. I've paid more for some older machines.

thanks. yes they seemed like good prices for something I can't even find listings for atm... but nevermind, they were dummy quotes from a chinese shop, idk why they left them up :/
I'll keep looking.

although I just got a 235 for 65$ in pretty good conditions which is on its way, can't complain.

Having bought from Chinese shops before, I'd like to warn you that those dummy quotes are always way less than the value they will charge you at the end.

Still. If you find a 240(Z) model especially, you are quite lucky.

Keep us updated.

Sure. Where can I find some quotes for classic thinkpads, to know which ones are worth, just scrounging the marketplace here? there are a few here on one of their "craigslist" and my wife luckily speaks the language.

Craigslist usually is a person-to-person meeting, with cash in your pocket, to buy the item right there. (Bit far from Italy...)
Better to check our Marketforum, or check our sister-forum in Germany: https://thinkpad-forum.de/forums/7-Marktplatz
And the Swiss https://www.ricardo.ch/de/c/o/computer- ... erk-39091/ occasionally has nice stuff as well.

Thanks :-) I'll have a look for sure but I'm residing in China most of the year. I was planning on doing the opposite, bring some there this summer when I come back home.

So it's been a while. No luck on the 701c, I only found garbage.

But I got a 240Z and a 1124 after a long time stalking the local listings in China.

https://imgur.com/a/AR6Ke37

The 240Z has a cloudy/spotty lid, darker areas at the corners of the display and its speaker doesn't sound very good. Other than that it's pretty nice: PIII 600Mhz, 192MB, 40GB, 1024x768, Ethernet.
The 1124 looks and feels like new, it has a Celeron 450, 192MB, 12GB, 1024x768. but it has a keyboard that behaves weirdly: the keys that have no secondary function(s) work fine, while the keys that have a secondary function (vol up-down, sleep, etc.) are stuck on that function. Even the keys that display the numpad numbers don't seem to work. They behave like this in the bios as well, unfortunately.

They also have XP in chinese. I am completely stuck now since I have no external floppy drive, no external CD, no ps2 keyboard, and no time these days to try to figure out something. Not to mention, there's not a lot of info about these two, especially the 1124 :-/
