Thinkpad 600 series and Selectadocks

#1 Post by Vipersan » Wed Jun 06, 2018 11:09 am

Hi..
I have the option to buy a Selectadock II
part number 3547-002

It would be used specifically with the 600 series ...so I need to verify total compatibility as it would have to be shipped from the US to the UK.

It is shown as an IBM SELECTADOCK II Docking Station

I currently have on order for the 600 series one of these :- Docking Station Ibm Fru p / N 12j2480 p / N 12J2468 Thinkpad 600 Series

my questions are
a) is the 3547-002 compatible with the 600 series ?
b) if so will the... Docking Station Ibm Fru p / N 12j2480 p / N 12J2468 interface between the laptop and the selectadock ?
c) if it is not the interface I need ..then what is ?

any experts that can help me here ..before I waste money ...and/or lose the option to buy one.

Regarding your questions:
a) Yes, SelectaDock II it's compatible with 600 series.
b) No, you need a different one - IBM SelectaBase 600. You'll find more information on Thinkwiki.

Thanks for info kacperas ..
Guess I'll just have to give up on this idea then ...since the only place I can get one is also the US ..
The base would be cheap enough ...but the postage ....Eeeeek.
$170 to post 13$ to buy..
Even the guy selling the the selectadock only wants $140 postage..
Oh well ..nice idea whilst it lasted..

Where your sellers get their fantasy-prices from? No idea.
Check with your sellers, that they should use the likes of: https://www.ipsparcel.com/
So far I've used them for shipments to Poland, Czech Republic and Norway.
They also ship to UK.
No idea what a Selectadock weighs, or what its dimensions are.
A package with estimated 16x15x4 inches and a weight of 6 Lbs. from USA to Manchester costs $45 with them.
Compare that with USPS rates: https://postcalc.usps.com/Calculator/Ma ... =12&dvi=50

PS: the old Boardroom website is still available on the Wayback Machine

Got to agree ..postage is the killer in situations like this ..
I've just sent the selectabase link to the selectadock vendor ...in the desperate hope he might take pity on me ..
both sellers being US based.
Theoretically he could buy the selectabase for a few dollars plus internal shipping ...then sell the whole lot on to me at a profit ..but this would still reduce my overall cost ..by combining shipping..
Simple logistcs ...but I guess it is a question of ..is it worth his time and effort ?
