701C CCFL replacement?

#1 Post by TheForgottenKing » Thu Aug 30, 2018 8:44 pm

Have one dead CCFL and a CCFL that I snapped in half while trying to swap out. Obviously got rid of the broken CCFL, but what type of replacement do I need?

Hey, you have the tube out, why not go LED? Xiphmont could probably hook you up with something or just use some kit from China. Wire it into a 5V bus somewhere and call it a day. It will be brighter, more efficient, and last longer. And honestly, who actually uses the brightness on Vintage laptops. We all run them at full brightness.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Dig that broken tube out of your garbage, then measure its length and diameter.
2.0mm dia. is/was rather common.
These outfits https://www.ccflwarehouse.com/ and http://www.lcdparts.net/ have quite a collection of everything you could want.

That tube is gone as I got rid of it, luckily I have a bunch of 701C parts including two screens, the ccfl that it needs actually still exists and is shot, luckily I damaged the 701cs screen ccfl that had an issue anyway so I can get the exact dimensions in a few hours
