Old tablet software?

#1 Post by Thinkpad4by3 » Thu Nov 22, 2018 8:28 pm

What is some cool software to run on old 486 (Thinkpads or otherwise) tablets? I know SkiFree is a lot of fun but what else can I use? Any buisness software that uses it? Note taking?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

They are really great as house plant stands, if you don't want your shelves to get dirty.

There were a few normal games that worked with the pen for the 360P/PE and 730T/TE under DOS/Win311 in the 1990's (the original Warcraft worked as I recall), but most pen business applications were geared toward handwriting recognition. There were a few applications written for specific industries on specific devices, like the funeral home casket design app on the RICOH'S G-1200S (the first Multimedia Tablet PC with an internal CD- ROM drive), however almost everything else pen based was at beta or demo level.

Not enough demand was out there to support the development of pens specific applications for the PC based pen computer. Microsoft had support in MS-DOS/Windows 3.x, but killed pen support before Win95 was released. Vendors like IBM came up with their own drivers, but Microsoft killed their internal efforts for pen. In fact the Outlook interface was originally one of the Win95 Pen based projects that was cannibalized into the Office suite.

There used to be a few websites that were devoted to Pen computer software lists, but most are long gone.
