win95 doesn't see cdrom drive on 770E

#1 Post by ckaufman » Wed Jun 29, 2005 4:04 pm

I have a 770E with w95. It has a cdrom drive in the bay (ultrabay?) . It passes
the ezstart test. But w95 does not see the drive-it's not there in 'my computer' and
nowhere to be found in device manager. 'Install new hardware' doesn't find it.
I have another cdrom drive and switching it into the drive doesn't change anything.

I tried to boot from a knoppix disk as a test. It starts the boot process so I know the
drive works well enough to be read from. (It doesn't complete the boot and that
may be related to the windows problem or it may because I haven't used the right
cheatcodes.)

Any suggestions about why it can't be seen? Bios is IDET38WW, dated 9/17/99.

Tnanks.
