IBM 755CD shuts down after POST

#1 Post by Bondi » Fri Dec 21, 2018 6:01 am

Hello everyone! Though it's my first post here, being a thinkpad fan I've been reading the forum for quite a while. But now it's time to ask for help.
I've recently acquired a nice IBM 755cd machine in a pretty decent shape. But it shuts down right after POST. So the detailed sequence is the following:
power ON, screen turns on, "24 MB ram OK" appears, HDD starts to spin, CD-ROM makes it's sounds, and then the machine goes off.
I tried the easy steps like turning on without HDD or CD - no result.
What would be my next steps to resolve the issue? Any Ideas what the problem could be?
Any help will be very much appreciated!
Roman

Well, the trick was to start it without the battery :banghead:
But I had more adventures with this machine - Power on passowrd and HDD password.
The POP was easy - just removed the backup battery.
As for HDP - Victoria managed to clear the Max level password, but performed security erase (which was okay). Now the HDD is usable!
