Looking for a 600E Palmrest

#1 Post by gts250gamer101 » Tue Jun 18, 2019 6:43 pm

Hey all,

Please bear with me as this is one of my first posts on this forum.

I don't know if this the right forum to post on, but I am looking for some ThinkPad 600E parts that I could pay postage for. My 600E is very long in the tooth, and the paint on the palmrest assembly is peeling off, and the hard drive bay cover is missing. I would appreciate if there is somebody with a dead 600E they'd be willing to mail, or the individual parts.

Again, I really appreciate everyone's help/input. Thanks a ton!

For the palmrest, if you can't find anything, you can try to remove the paint completely and spray a new layer on it with one of those flat type black paint. This is only if you cannot find anything, as finding a good quality paint that won't get sticky when mixed with palm oil isn't gonna be as cheap as one may think.
And I think this should go under the marketplace category instead.

600 or 600E palmrest could be completely cleaned off the rubber paint, and looks great this way; el-sahef tried it out and it's fantastic. Same for lid. Note that this works just for 600 and 600e, not for 600x (there was a different painting method for this), and requires lots of time and nerves. Since you want to swap your palmrest, why don't you try? :)

If not, drop me a PM; I should have everything you're looking for.
Too many thinkpads not enough time!

Actually, I found a somewhat easy method - Isopropyl Alcohol is very effective against the rubbery paint. I'd buy 5 liters of it and submerge the whole palmrest in it for a few hours. After that most of the paint will flake off. For the more stubborn parts I use more alcohol, cotton swabs and a bit of elbow grease.

Um really? My 600 laptop's palmrest is made with Magnesium alloy painted black, so removing the paint and not putting a new coat back on gives you a look of the likes of Z60, except possibly worse.
