Hi,
I am trying to update my 380XD from bios revision 1.07 to 1.19, using the bootable diskette.
I do not have any battery installed, as it did not come with one when I first bought it.
Of course, when I try to install the update, it won't let me without a battery installed.
Is there any way around this, or do i have to buy a battery?
Take a look at our

Re: 380XD: Bios Update w/o Battery (Help)
I must admit that I have no experience with 380Xd, but long ago I have succesfully used a workaround on 600 and 700 series laptops.
If interested you may have a look at post 25 at following thread.:

Succes!

Re: 380XD: Bios Update w/o Battery (Help)
I've never owned a 380XD, but I'm curious myself now how hard it is to rebuild the battery. That's how I've updated all my 755s, 760s and 600s - by rebuilding the battery (or acquiring one to rebuild, if need be).
Historic ThinkPads owned:
300 (x3), more 355's than I know what to do with, 360C/CSE/CE/P, 510CS, 560/E, 600E, 701C/CS, 730TE, 750/C, 755C(x3)/CE(x3)/CX/CDV/CD, 760ED, 770
Newer ThinkPads owned:
T520, W520 (x2), X220 Tablet (x4), and some T61/X61T laying around somewhere
