IBM 380XD fan control

Hello! I have an IBM 380XD and it works fine, but after an hour or two it gets a little hot.
Is there any way to control the fan at what temperature to turn on?
I tried to install Thinkpad Fan Controller but it is not compatible.
I need something to run on Windows 95. :?

it's quite possible your fan has gotten stuck or has died. does it even run at all?
on my 380XD I had to blow very hard into the fan vent to get it moving again after sitting for a long time.
I had to do the same to the 600 I picked up this past week. the 380 series as I know it does throw fan errors, but it's very uncommon, and it generally just checks to see if the fan moves a bit. doesn't really go through the paces. I noticed once I blew really hard into the vent, it reliably turned on at boot and then shut off until the temp got up a bit.

By the way, which 380XD do you have? Pentium 233 or Pentium II 233?

Thanks for the reply!

My 380XD is equipped with a Pentium II 233.

The fan is functional, when I turn on the laptop, the fan turns on as well, then it run for about 2-3 minutes then stop.
It only starts again when the processor reaches a certain temperature and starts to blow strongly.
The temperature in the blown air reaches 60-65 °C... I think the CPU reaches 70 °C.

I should change the temperature threshold in the BIOS at which the fan is set to start but I don't know how to do that. :?:

you can't change the threshold, it's what you have or nothing, sadly.
You can try taking it apart CAREFULLY, the plastic is sure to be brittle, and re-doing the thermal compound on the heatsinking to the spreader plate and fan assembly. that will help massively, since the thermal padding likely used is going to be very degraded. I used to have a PI 233 MMX 380XD and I can't remember what I did while I was inside mine. I still have it upstairs, it's in shambles from a very hard life and should have been put to pasture a long time ago, but I can't bring myself to do it.
