For the past few weeks I've been fixing up a 600E (2645-4AU) that I bought as a basket case on eBay.

The previous owner had run the 366 PII without the fan, so my first task was to replace it with a celeron 466 and a new fan/heat sink. I then scored 2 brand new IBM 33L3069 256 MB SODIMMs still sealed in the factory box (including a BIOS update diskette for supported 600E models) for $46.00 each shipped.

My final upgrade was buying a refurbished Seagate Momentus 5400.2 8 MB cache 40 GB drive from Newegg.com. It was half the price of a new one and has 4 years and 6 months remaining on the original warranty. This alone perked this old computer up more than anything.

I've got Windows 2000 Pro SP4 running on it and it does surprisingly well, but I'm wondering how it stacks up against other machines in it's class.

Here's where the racing part comes in. http://www.pcpitstop.com has a usuability benchmark online that runs on Internet Explorer. If some of you folks that have machines applicable to this subforum would like to go there, register an account, run the full tests and post a tech express link in this thread we can compare how our machines are doing against each other.

My Tech Express link from earlier today is http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.as ... MX3KQS9ZU6 This link will expire within 30 days from this post btw.

Here's my score from my old 770X that I upgraded to a PIII 450Mhz...and replaced the onboard 64Mb PC66 Ram with a PC100 Stick to make the RAM run at 100Mhz.....has an old 4200 RPM drive in it,as my 80Gb is in my T23 now....

Not too bad of a score for an old girl....LOL....as you can see,it makes a noticeable difference in memory bandwidth in being able to replace the PC66 Memory with PC100...!!!

That is a very nice score there :D It is actually in the neighborhood of Via Epia 1200+ (it got a 406) I built a few months back.

My Celeron 466 is a 66 mhz FSB so seeing the increase in memory bandwidth difference for the 100 mhz part is interesting to say the least.

I am tempted to try a PIII cpu in this machine, mostly to improve the video score. I've also got my eye on a MMC-2 Celeron 600. The Celly is non speedstep so that part of the battle would be moot, I would just have to worry about the 32 MB onboard running at 100 mhz, and of course the L2 cache problem.

I would still like to see some scores from the PIII speedstep in a non speedstep machine crowd
