600X Recovery CD creates 2GB C drive, how to make full drive size?
600X Recovery CD creates 2GB C drive, how to make full drive size?
I've got a 600X with the factory original recovery CD (Win98SE). When I perform the recovery it creates a 2GB C drive, and then the remainder of the space (about 10GB) is the D drive. I'd like to have the C drive be the entire hard disk (12GB). Anybody know how to do that? Am I doing something wrong? During restore I choose the option that says something about making the hard drive like factory settings. Did it really come with only a 2GB C drive? When I tried the other option (something like use the hard drive partitions as is), the recovery failed.
It's been awhile since I've use Windows 98, so I'm not sure if the 2GB is a FAT issue, or what. Any help/advice is much appreciated.

On newer systems one would use diskmgmt.msc to delete the D: drive, and then enlarge the C: drive.
AFAIK under W98 you need to use FDISK for doing the above, but it's too long ago to remember details.

That's normal, below a quote from PSREF:shooter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 12:11 amDid it really come with only a 2GB C drive? When I tried the other option (something like use the hard drive partitions as is), the recovery failed.

Code: Select all
All models:
- C: drive is FAT16 of 2GB
- D: drive is FAT32 (if W98) or FAT16 (if NT) of remaining space

Re: 600X Recovery CD creates 2GB C drive, how to make full drive size?
Thank you for the replies! It is helpful to know that this is the normal expected behavior.
That's precisely what I'm getting a 2GB C Drive that is FAT16 and the remainder as a D Drive formatted FAT32. If I pre-format the drive as one FAT32 partition and try the recovery choosing to recover to the drive as partitioned (rather than to recreate the factory partitioning) it eventually errors out late in the recovery process.
I don't think there is a native partition expansion function in Win98SE or in the IBM utilities that preserves the drive contents, so it appears the solution is, after the recovery, to use a third party application like Partition Magic to convert the C drive to FAT32 and expand it to fill the disk.

If you can find an old copy of partition magic it will do what what you want nicely. I used to use it all the time with my T20 series and T30s.
