365xd original software needed

#1 Post by Albert Romer » Sat May 16, 2020 5:10 pm

Hi all!

I'm new in this forum. I recently bought a thinkpad 365xd. I would like to restore it to factory. The HDD is empty and I have read on the user manual that there is a software that came with the new machines:

-Diskette Factory program.
-Device driver diskettes.
-Utility diskettes.

I would really aprecciate if someone could upload or send me this software.

Thank you!

Albert.

Hi - you can get the drivers for sure from this section of this site; not sure abt the other software: https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkpad- ... index.html

If you're missing any drivers (like for video or audio) you can see which chipset you have and then go up or down a model and it usually works. Probably better to start by going up a model so you err on the side of having newer drivers I would guess.

I have a 380Z and I'm in the midst of trying to do a full recovery with recovery CD's/bootdisks etc...

Hi Albert.

If you're still looking, I recently made floppy disks of all of your required 365XD programs from the Diskette Factory on one of my 365XD units. (Purchased partly because it has a good 8X CD-ROM drive that actually reads any stamped/pressed/written CD I could find...the almost-complete OEM Win 95 install was a bonus!) The installation did not include the OS/2 Boot Manager, and I was/am about to pull/save the drive and install a version of just OS/2 on a new drive.

There were audio, video, infrared, CD-ROM drivers, Power Management Program, Personalization Program, Utility disks, an Emergency Recovery Disk, PCCard drivers, IBM Antivirus, Lotus Smartsuite, Tranxit, Cosession, Netfinity etc, and device drivers for DOS, Win 3.1, Win 95, Win NT 3.51, Win NT 4.0, and OS/2. I actually wrote all of them out to floppy disks using the installed Diskette Factory program, something like 35++ 1.44 Mb floppy disks in total....I quit counting after that!

(Covid gives me LOTS of time to do things that otherwise would STILL be on my "Things To Do List"}...see: viewtopic.php?f=68&t=131342#p850143

One caveat... the resurrected floppy disks include everything EXCEPT the Diskette Factory program itself. However, the Win 95 DF program includes 2 folders on the "C" drive .."Factory"...the recovery program itself, and "Disketts"...(includes Loaddskf and Xdfcopy programs) which holds the disk images themselves in DSK format. Not sure if I can backup/restore just those folders or not. The Diskette Factory program only runs under Windows, not DOS.

I haven't managed yet to image the floppies, but I can do so and host them for download .... or alternatively, I can try and and figure out a way to image my whole 365XD hard drive and host that instead, since it's basically a new install with no other info on the hard drive... probably pull the drive and slave it to another machine.

I haven't checked yet to see if it has an intact Recovery Partition, which would make things even easier still. I will check all out later and figure out my backup/restore options.

Regards.

Dave

365XD "Diskette Factory" Images Available for Download:

Link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fedy4b5x7uxf ... fMk8a?dl=0

The IMA & IMG images of the 365XD Diskette Factory contents are arranged according to operating system: DOS/Win 3.1, Win 95, Win NT 3.51/4.0 and OS/2.

THESE IMAGES DO NOT CONTAIN ANY OPERATING SYSTEMS. THEY ONLY CONTAIN THE SUPPLEMENTARY FILES LOCATED IN THE "DISKETTE FACTORY" PROGRAM, WHICH, ALONG WITH THE FILES LOCATED IN THE "DRIVERS" SECTION AT THE TOP OF THE FORUM PAGE, WILL ALLOW YOU TO COMPLETE A FACTORY RECOVERY OF WIN 95 ON YOUR 365XD THINKPAD.

Created with WinImage Ver 6.0 under Win XPSP3.

All programs sre subject to the following Copyright notice:"Distributed by IBM. Copyright 1996 Licensed Material-Program Property of IBM. All Rights Reserved"

Some programs were included in more than one folder O/S, i.e. Infrared, CD-ROM, etc, because the program includes drivers for different operating systems.

If you encounter any problems with either the files or the download, please send me a PM or leave a note here....the disk images were verified before uploading, but I've been having problems with Dropbox settings lately that haven't been completely resolved.

Disk images guaranteed COVID-19 free :D :D ....sorry... creating & verifying all these images with a 1.4 floppy drive was an exceedingly slow grinding process and left me a bit batty! Enjoy.

Regards.

Hello,

I just recently purchased an IBM ThinkPad 365x and it has a blank drive that I've created two 15gb partitions on. I would like to restore it to a factory setup and would like to know where I could track down the original Factory restore utility + Drivers.

Thank you all so much,
Ethan
