Thinkpad 701c keeps getting stuck on 5B

#1 Post by solidpro » Thu Jun 11, 2020 11:49 am

Hi All

I've a 701c in lovely condition but can't seem to get it to boot to any disk. I've tried an original working 540Mb drive, various compact flash drives and others. It has booted, fairly randomly once or twice but then reverts to a fail.

The drives are detected in the BIOS and are proven to have everything necessary to boot by testing on other thinkpads.

It gets stuck showing a green "5B" in the bottom right hand corner. I can't find a list of POST codes anywhere. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Here's an extensive list with general IBM Post-codes: http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/ibmbios.htm
5B Disable the mouse
Not sure if this helps.

Aha, that link is really useful thanks - no amount of googling turned it up.

However it seems the plot thickens. Does anyone know what "Disable the mouse" means and why it would halt the system booting up?

Thanks
