Error Code 174?

#1 Post by BigWarpGuy » Mon Jul 11, 2005 8:54 am

My Thinkpad 600 will not go past error 174. It shows the test part of the cmos. I reboot and it shows 174 then the test part. What is error code 174?
I have a driver cd that I ordered and I have another hard drive ordered (both on way to me).

error 174.

configuration error, perform "checking the installed devices list"

check device configuration.

hard disc assembly.

system board.

Do you have your laptop on a docking station?
do you have more then 1 FDD (Floppy Disc Drive)
some thinkpads can only handle 1 floppy drive at a time.

When your error code pops up, goto "TEST"
run a test on your motherboard.
if is shows up with an X and some numbers, you have a bad FRU.
Run a test on everything, and tell me the details.
be sure too give me the numbers.
the numbers will tell me witch FRU is bad.
it's good your getting a new hardrive, your current one could be bad.

FRU

I do not have a docking station for it. It has only one floppy drive but I have a cdrom drive in the ultrabay slot. I have an external floppy drive connected to it (for this model of TP).

I will do the test and give the results. I had done tests before and the TP froze up during some of them. I will return with which ones froze up duing the test.

Icon For Hard Drive Grayed Out?

#4 Post by BigWarpGuy » Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:56 am

In the test section of the cmos settings/setup, the icon representing the first hard drive (only one on in TP 600) is grayed out. I can not test it. It does not see it. I will try re-inserting the hard drive. I will also try another hard drive (I have one that I bought on eBay).

Can NOt Test Hard Drive!

#6 Post by BigWarpGuy » Wed Jul 13, 2005 1:41 pm

Since the icon for the hard drive is grayed out, I am unable to test it (in the test section of the cmos). I have another hard drive on order and am still waiting to it to come).

Yes, I know that, eaither your motherboard is not reading your hardrive or your hardrive is bad, try takeing the hardrive out, and blowing down into the slot with a puff of air from a can.

did you test the motherboard!!?

System Board Tested!

#8 Post by BigWarpGuy » Thu Jul 14, 2005 10:39 am

I did do a test on the system board (in the test section of the cmos). It was okay. I will try to 'blow air' into the hard drive slot.
