Here's the "official" word from IBM and it says the answer is yes!

http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4E4RG3

You should be able to MAX the RAM at 556MB.

Hey JHEM. little question, i diden't see the model 4au in the list, dose that mean it will not work in my 2645-4AU or if they just listed a few???

The list includes "2645 3Ax, 5Ax, 5Bx, 4Ax, 8Ax, AAx, 4Bx, 8Bx, BAx models only. Requires BIOS version inet26ww or later."

They list them that way because, for instance, the 2645-4AU is the same machine as the 2645-4AG, but the "AU" machine was offered in North America and the "AG" machine was offered in the EU and UK.

So, your 2645-4AU is covered by the "4Ax" in the listing, the small x taking the place of any letter or number.

James

The generic site I use for specific model support is:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us

On that page, I enter any valid model, and that leads me to the specifications. For your model 4AU, I found the page:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... GRN-446MWD

On that page, it says for the 4AU there is a maximum of 288Mb of RAM.

That appears to conflict with the document James posted, but the document above does list your model.

The page I posted is the "updated" information for memory and supplants the "original" info page you referred to JD.

Even the TWBOOK specs for the 600E machines states that the max memory is 288MB, it's never been updated.

Yes, must be lo-density (16 chip), preferably PC100 but PC133 will also work if you can find some, they're pretty rare.
