ThinkPad 380XD help.

#1 Post by Nightowl75 » Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:19 am

I have one of these ThinkPads 380XD. I am looking for a battery for it, and some websites say that a Li-ion battery is not interchangeable with the MN-HD battery it came with originally, but says you can use it. I am kind of confused by that remark. I also was wondering since this came with a 56K modem, if it can be converted to WiFi? I have no way to try it on the internet since I have no land line phone, only cell phones. Thank you. 😊

You can replace Mn-Hd batteries with Li-ion but not mix them(ie Ultrabay and main one), although if controller is inside the laptop and not in the battery itself(I din’ know this is your case), laptop may report weird things(like battery at 153%).

You can’t replace your 56K model with WiFi because its port is bandwidth constrained(like 115.2Kbps), you can use a PCMCIA or maybe even USB wifi(I recommend Atheros 9xxx series)
