TP600 Problem / Solution Install Win 98 SE freezes when booting with SD IDE adapter and 16gb memory

#1 Post by Franchute13 » Sat Oct 02, 2021 8:58 am

Hi there. I had the following problem and found the following solution. Maybe it is useful to someone else.

Goal:
Install windows 98

Hardware:
Thinkpad 600
SD IDE 44 pin adapter
16gb / 32gb sd card class 10.

Problem:
When booting with windows 98 SE installation CD, the thinkpad freezes (Using 16gb or 32gb card).
If a 2gb SD card is used, the Win 98Se installer works correctly
If another OS is installed, for example Linux, using 16gb or 32gb card, it works fine.
If 16gb or 32gb SD card is partitioned using Windows xp, it doesn't work.

Solution:
Use ontrack disk manager, create partitions and then install windows 98.
The problem with this solution is that you cannot connect the SD card to another machine to recover / copy files since it does not know the file system.

If someone has another solution, I hope they share
