Hi Everyone
I've got one of these with vinegar syndrome and a spare 9.5" grey scale LCD which i'm told is 'guaranteed working'....
I can't see any obvious way in - any ideas!?
Thanks

Re: PS/2 Note N33SX Disassemble?
Thanks - google searching never turned up this link!
I did manage to find my way in - these things are much less user-friendly when it comes to taking them apart. The screen required removing 6 screws, 4 of which were under adhesive covers and 2 of those were made of paper, which had to be destroyed to get to the screws.
Unfortunately my screen has smashed itself with vinegar syndrome (has cracks all over, which I can feel with my fingernail). I had a spare screen from a similar model but it's not similar enough and has different connectors (despite being vaguely described online as the same 9.5" B&W 640x480 STN panel).
The saga continues....
Thanks

Re: PS/2 Note N33SX Disassemble?
I'm surprised https://www.ardent-tool.com/8533/ doesn't seem to mention anywhere much about the LCD itself.
I spent 2 hours scrubbing the glue off both sides of the glass and I've managed to drag it back to clean. I had to de-solder two ribbon cables to get access to the back.
I realised (as I have done before, but forgot!) that the glass wasn't cracked - it was 'veins' in the glue that was holding both polarizers on.
I took two photos but even when I test image hyperlinks work, the img html doesn't seem to work for me. Here they are:
http://fixpcb.co.uk/N33-SX-LCD1.jpg
http://fixpcb.co.uk/N33-SX-LCD2.jpg
I've got to wait a few days for the polarizers to arrive and see how I get on then!
Does anyone know - does vinegar syndrome occur only to LCDs which have been stored incorrectly (I'm guessing moisture) or is it a bit like leaky electrolytic caps where it's simply due to a bad batch of glue in a certain time period?
