760CD MWave & DOS

#1 Post by thurmagon » Wed Jul 20, 2005 7:20 pm

Hi all...this is my first post.

I just recently recieved a large number of old ThinkPads from my uncle (he got them from University, they were going to trash em, so he bought them cheap), and they are 755 CD, and 760 CD. Im working on the 760CD's right now, and I cannot find any DOS drivers for them (yes, DOS...lol). Well, I did find ONE, from driverguide.com, but they don't work. I can load them, and reboot the machine as asked, then I get a bunch of errors in my Autoexec.bat while booting, and no sound. Anyone have any help for me please? I really appreciate it, and thanks in advance!

Update...

#2 Post by thurmagon » Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:55 pm

Ive messed around some, restarted quite a bit, and now I get some popping sounds when the machine boots up (using the mwavedos.zip I found), but I still dont get any sound in any programs from DOS. I also get a "BAD COMMAND OR FILENAME" after booting, and it has to do with the last line of my Config.sys, I beleive, which is "CALL MWAVE START NOSHOW". Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for the link, but theres no DOS drivers for the sound there...just 95+. Anyhow, though, I solved the problem. After doing some searching and triel/error playing, I found out that MWR.BAT will activate and run the sound. Dont know why they didnt just automatically set this up through the Install progrem, but hey, whatever. I added a line in my AUTOEXEC.BAT pointing to a BAT file I made that points to the MWR.BAT. It works. Sound and all. *shrug* Maybe it just didnt install right the 5 or so times I installed it. Either way, I got it working. Yay.

Drivers CD?

#5 Post by BigWarpGuy » Thu Jul 21, 2005 9:32 am

Have you checked for drivers cd at a place like eBay? I have a drivers cd for a 760EL that I won a bid on at eBay.

You might want to check http://www.freedos.org which has a free version of DOS.

DOS for CDROM?

#6 Post by BigWarpGuy » Thu Jul 21, 2005 9:36 am

There only seems to have DOS drivers for the cdrom. I think there are dos drivers for FreeDOS. The bios has a 'all' in the driver section.

I will check my 760EL driver cd to see if there are any dos drivers. Perhaps they could work with 760CD?
