370C Powers on but no video or beeps...

#1 Post by solidpro » Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:28 pm

HI All

I got hold of a 370c in really nice condition. It powers on but doesn't do anything - nothing on LCD, nothing on external VGA, no beeps.

I tried again after removing the FDD, RAM CARD, batteries and hard drive and no change.... Just wondered if anyone has any ideas of what to try next?

I've got a lot of 755 era spare parts laying around so I start to wonder if anything is cross-changable across other models to pin down the fault.....

Thanks!

I had a 360C on the shelf, working but just the base (no screen), so I took both the 370 and 360 apart and they're extremely similar (as you might expect because the 370 appears to be a last iteration of the 36x series).

The inner shielded circuit boards in both the 360 and 370 are exactly the same shape, size and fitment, and inside they're almost exactly the same, however the 360 and 370 use seperate power daughterboards - they're cross changable but it appears not compatible - the battery connections are different and whilst they do swap, they're clearly built to a different spec.

Neither would boot with each other's power boards so really the only workable solution today was to 'build' a decent 360C out of the shell of a 370C.

Alas, the 370c boards go back on the shelf until if/when I end up with another 370c where I can narrow down which parts work and which parts to not, and then likely sell of as tested spares.

TLDR: 360 and 370 'main guts' are interchangable within the outside base/keyboard/drives/screen but the battery and internal power components are not interchangable.
