thinkpad 600 motherboard/systemboard replacement

Hi all, I have a 2645 thinkpad 600 with a dead motherboard. I bought a replacement (51u) but when I go to plug my lcd into the motherboard , ie via the lcd cable it doesn't fit. In fact the component to plug it into is not there, and a smaller component next to it looks like its the connection for the lcd.

Am I seeing a different connection on the motherboard depending on whether it is intended for a 12" or 13" screen?, ie

05K2464 vs. 05K2655

Is there anything I can do to get around this?

thanks

My model which has a broken motherboard is a 2645-35U

I bought a 2645-51U motherboard replacement.

Does this give any indication of compatibility. Me 35U has a 12.1" screen.

I understood that you can buy any 2645 motherboards as a replacement, as long as it's not the 600x.

As I stated previously above, the 12.1" and 13.3" display MBs are different and are not cross compatible.

Will the 13.3" screen fit the older case? Might be a reason to upgrade the screen and sell the smaller one. Case tops might be different though (and that's likely).

You can often buy a parts 600E with a known bad motherboard but good screen. If you want to repair yours and utilize the mobo you bought that would be the way to go. Otherwise return/swap the mobo if you bought from a dealer, put it back on e-bay if that's the source and try to recover your money.

It's a good idea to check the upgrade sticky here and the IBM site before buying anything. I've been bit too!!

Thats the weird thing, I would have thought the width of the lcd case would be different for a 12" and a 13". Everything seems to be connecting and bolting in at the same places, except for this one connection. I'm assuming its due to screen size changes, perhaps though its really only a difference in models, and it is from a 12" also.
