TP 570 and Display problem

#1 Post by dmarook » Wed Jul 27, 2005 10:49 am

Hello,

I had not used my TP 570 for few weeks and when I turned it on today the screen was just blank. It does power up but just gives a whitish glow rather than showing anything like the boot screen. The laptop does boot up and changing the screen brightness with the slider switch did not make any difference. It looks to me like the tft is receiving power but no data. Any ideas what I should look into to correct the problem? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your video cable is loose. If you look above the F4 key, where the monitor meets the base, there's a little sliding hinge there. Behind that is your video connector, and the [censored] thing comes out all the time. You have to disassemble the display housing and the keyboard bezel and reattach the cable -- I hot glued mine back into place but I don't recommend that. It could wreck stuff.

Thanks for your advice karmaflux. I had guessed along the same line. But fortunately it seem to have fixed itself. Atleast I know where to fiddle if it happens again. Thanks again.

TP570E White Screen

#4 Post by tcsnyder » Mon May 01, 2006 9:07 pm

I have three 570s, two 570Es and one 570. The 570Es have a connector inside the LCD assembly itself. This connector works loose over time and movement. The symptoms are a white screen on bootup. On my most used 570E I can restore the display by lightly flexing the LCD, pulling on the lower right and pushing on the upper left. I purchased a service manual for the 570 which gives step by step instructions to remove the LCD assembly. While the LCD assembly is not a field servicable component, I have been able to repeatedly disassemble the LCD assembly, reseat the connector and the 570E works great for some time depending on how often it is closed and carried. I carry mine back & forth every day and have only reseated the connector twice in 18 months.
