8611 errer- is there an easy fix?

hit and miss booting due to this error, is there an easy fix or should I just buck up far a keyboard? if i buck where can I go to look for diagrams on replacing the keyboard?

Hey man, I am haveing the same problem right now,
I am just replaceing the keyboard, replaceing the keyboard is pretty simple, google a search on a thinkpad 600 manuel, I have a printed one.
if you can't do it your-self, you can send it to me and i'll put it together for you.

I think you need a new keyboard. You can probably pick one up on e-bay pretty cheap.
Below is the link you can follow to get to the page where you can download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. Fill in the first 2 drop down boxes, then click continue. From there, click on the Publication link.

Removing the keyboard is not too difficult, just be very careful with the ribbon cables and their connectors. Do not pull on the ribbon cable to unplug the connector. There are two ribbon cables. One for the speakers, and one for the keyboard. Use something like a small blade to carefully separate the connectors. After you remove the screws, lift the front of the keyboard up just enough where you can get to the ribbon cable connectors to disconnect them. You will have to adjust the angle of the display to be able to remove the keyboard.
