Need help understanding maintenance guide.

#1 Post by supergoat » Thu Aug 04, 2005 3:00 pm

I have the guide telling me how to disassemble my laptop. I need to remove the keyboard bezel to try and fix the bubbling paint.

I'm not sure how to do it. My lappy is a 770. The guide says to remove the 4 screws infront of the LCD, I did but still can get the keyboard out so I can get the bezel off. It's bothering me a lot. I just want to sand down the paint and re-paint it a semi-gloss black.

Thanks for any help. By the way, I'm new here and this is my first post. This seems like a pretty nice community. :)

Here ya go.....ya need Adobe reader installed to view.... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... FAN-3TSMGJ

Upside down, remove the 6 screws, flip over, remove the 4 screws by the indicator display on the keyboard, starting at the front carefully lift up the keyboard until you can reach under and pull up the little connectors holding the very fragile keyboard ribbon cables....be careful....and once you get it up a little push the keyboard to one side to release the little clip holding the back of the keyboard down....again be careful as a couple time i've had the case break right above these little clips as its only like 2mm thick.....also little clips by the drive bay and on the other side by the battery, they should pop free when you slightly slide the keyboard to one side....

Have fun....

I'm not sure if the guide you are referring to is the IBM Hardware Maintenance Manual, but if not you can get it. You can download the Hardware Maintenance Manual by starting at the following link. Make your choices in the first two drop down boxes, click on continue, then click on publications.

http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... date=false

The IBM Hardware Maintenance Manual has diagrams and step-by-step removal guides (at least for most models).

Hmmm, perhaps just masking it off would be a better idea. Breaking a case would not be ideal.
