How to change the A/ drive CD device to the Floppy device

I'm a new member so I hope I'm doing this all correctly. Someone gave me an old Thinkpad (vintage 1996?) with no instruction manual. All I have to go on, is that it is a type 9547. It came with a spare floppy device that I believe inserts into the A drive. Right now, there is a CD type in the drive. Can anyone tell me how to remove the CD to "swap" it for the Floppy. Any help is greatly appreciated. Jim

You're doing fine Jim, although I'm going to move this thread to the Legacy forum.

First, find the complete model number for your system, should be on the label on the bottom of the machine and will say something like 9547-XXX.

Yes, you've got a Thinkpad 760, very nice machines in their day.

To install the floppy drive, you need to remove the CD drive and replace it with the floppy. In order to do this you need to open the keyboard. With the unit sitting on a flat surface in front of you, open the display by pulling the catch on each side TOWARDS you and pushing the display open with your thumbs.

Open the display completely (180 degrees) and allow it to rest on the surface you're working on. Now look at the back of the keyboard and see if it has raised up at an angle. If so, there are two small arms on either side of the keyboard that will allow it to lower flat again.

Now with your fingers on the same catches that you used to open the display, push BACKWARDS on them and push the keyboard open with your thumbs.

Voila', you can now remove the CD drive.
