hi,any help for this old beast,I'm not sure how to install the battery and I can't find any info on the IBM site.thanks

Sure, to install the battery, with the unit off, you put your fingers on the same latches used to release the LCD and push them forward then lift on the keyboard. Once you lift the keyboard up, you'll be able to drop the battery into the appropriate slot, the middle one. After that, simply put the keyboard back down and you're good and ready to go.

To install the battery you need to open the keyboard. With the unit sitting on a flat surface in front of you, open the display by pulling the catch on each side TOWARDS you and pushing the display open with your thumbs.

Open the display completely (180 degrees) and allow it to rest on the surface you're working on. Now look at the back of the keyboard and see if it has raised up at an angle. If so, there are two small arms on either side of the keyboard that will allow it to lower flat again.

Now with your fingers on the same catches that you used to open the display, push BACKWARDS on them and push the keyboard open with your thumbs.

Voila', you can now remove the battery.
