Win XP keeps losing track of audio driver

#1 Post by frankwalsh1962 » Tue Aug 30, 2005 10:36 am

I had to reformat the hard disc on my (2nd hand) new TPad 600e to install Windows XP Pro, and seem to have lost a driver for the audio. I can find Crystal WDM Audio Codec in the hardware tab of Sounds and audio devices, but it says 'this device cannot start Code10' I uninstall and reinstall it, using device manager and 'find new hardware' wizard, and succeed in getting sound - I can play CDs ect. until I reboot the machine, at which point I start getting messages saying I have no sound card.

I do have a sound card, and the correct software, but Windows cant remember it from one reboot to the next. Any idea what I can do about this? (I will also be asking in some other forums, specific to Windows, but maybe this is a known Thinkpad issue...)

Thanks

Similar to our machine (2645-a5u). Upon reboot (or several reboots) the sound card will vanish in XP SP2. My solution is to boot into the bios and reset the mainboard, then finish the boot process. That clears it up until the next reboot (where it magically disappears).

Cannot say this is your same issue, but could be something to try.

magically disapears is about right. the driver must be in there somewhere, as I can install it - but the install last only until the next reboot. As I usually Hibernate between work sessions rather that rebooting it is less of a problem, but still no what it should be.

i hear you, i got so fedup with the install/reinstall that i just decided to load WIN2K just for the audio. i had another 600E and sold it, asked the guy if i could borrow his harddrive...since his motherboard crashed just for his drivers.

i hope this will solve, with the reset.
