Trident Cyber9397DVD board

#1 Post by mdbrown » Sat Apr 24, 2004 11:19 am

Has anyone here replaced the standard 9397 board in a base 770 with the 9397DVD board from an X or Z model? Is there any improvement or is it not worth the hassle?

Trident Cyber9397DVD board

#2 Post by Bruce Guttman » Tue Apr 27, 2004 9:00 am

In doing some "Frankenpad" experiments I have put the video board from a 770E (4MB) in a 770. It worked, but not any better than the standard board. Then again, I didn't try any display-heavy operations like games or DVD playing. Then again, if your original video board went South and you only have the 770X board to replace it, try it and see.

I think the best route for getting good DVD performance from a 770 is to install the DEVA card (fits under the battery) and don't try to mess with anything else in the computer. Also, give the OS as much RAM as it can stand (128-256 MB for Win 9X; more for the NT flavors, 2000 and XP).

Hope this helps.

I have put the 9397DVD 4 mb card into an ED, which normally has a 4mb 9397 card. It detects as the same card under both XP and 2000. I've been looking for an 8mb 9397DVD to try, but haven't found one (cheap) yet.
