600 CD-R/RW Question

Greetings - I'm new to this forum and goofed right off the bat by not posting my question to the right forum. So the below is a copy. In short, is there a CD-Read/Write software available that is Pentium II capable? Many Thanks and have a good Labor Day -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings all - I'm hoping someone can help me here.
I purchased a used 600 which came with a CD read only device. Wanting CDRW capability I went into GOOGLE and did a search for IBM THINKPAD 600 CD-RW and up popped an electronic place where I subsequently purchased the following (per the invoice)
CDRWIBM600 1 IBM thinkpad 600 IBM 600e IBM 600x CD-RW CD BURNER [New] </b><font size = -4> [30DY] CDRWIBM600 -V24<font size = 2>
I installed the device. It is actually a Hitachi H-L Data Storage CD-r/rw model GCE8080N - so it says it's RW. Via the My Computer properties/hardware-properties tab, the new device name shows up. When I went to the Control Panel to do an 'official' hardware install, the pop-up response was that here is what you got and it's running just fine.
I have two separate CD-R/RW software programs on the laptop - Adaptec and Roxio - neither of them recognise the device/drive as being there. In both cases they say either do device found or no compatible drice.
At this point I'm wondering one of several things:
the Hitachi really is not compatible
the Hitachi really isn't a CD-R/RW - although it does read beautifully.
there is a setting in the laptop that I need to change or set
the software programs have a setting or option that I overlooked
I use an Thinkpad T23 at the office - and it's CD-R/RW uses ROXIO, so I'm stumped now as to what is going on. Does anyone have any insight into my problem?
Many Thanks -

I had that problem on my X40 with Roxio. Try using Nero, if you can.

thank you. Nero 6 has a system requirement of Pentium III - I'm only a II. Is that the problem?
