Hello all:

My CD-ROM drive seems to be failing (was working fine until I flashed the firmware as instructed by IBM site) ... so I need a replacement.

Here is the CD-ROM I currently have:
LG CRN-8241B(AHM) 5v/1.5A
FRU 05K9165
Rom Ver 1.16DA

My i1400 is 2611-412.

Looking at parts list on the ibm site:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-49AJF5

it seems that:
FRU 05K9114 (LG)
FRU 05K9140 (TEAC)
are the 2 types of CDROM for the 2611-412 (and others)

Strange that 05K9165 (the one I have) is not on that short list.

Any suggestions on where to get a replacement?

Thank you very much,
iougs-

Would a generic TEAC CD-224E be ok to use?

for a 2611-412 i1400 machine.

I would do a search on ebay with the FRU numbers.

Have replaced the CD and many other components in the the 1400 series I used to own. Suggest you download & study the hardware maintenance manual from the IBM website. Once you figure out how to open up the laptop it is very easy. I would take me less than 30 minutes to replace the drive.
