TP 600 - Looking to upgrade CPU and System Board

#1 Post by Rickmaan » Tue Jun 29, 2004 3:43 pm

Hello,

New member and just got a TP600 (2645-51U) that is not working and was hoping to replace the system board and put a faster CPU (Currently a P2-266)

I have seen some 600E system boards with P3's, but not sure whether to spend the money.

Any resources that you can recommend or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'd be interested in this as well - I have a 600 (2645-45U) with a PII-300 that works fine, but am interested in what my upgrade options are.

It'd be cool if there was an update thread for the 600 series like the sticky one for the 770 series.

The plain vanilla 600 machines are limited to a max CPU upgrade of an Intel PII 400MHz MMC-1 module.

Good luck finding one!

I have a 26435-51U with a PII 366. This processor is much easier to find than the 400 and much cheaper too.
The number you want on the processor is PMF36602002AA. Here is a link to the intel page to decode the numbers.
Also you could buy a botom half of a 600X on ebay like this and go up to a PIII850. You would need that whole assembly as the plastic and some sub-boards are different.

Appreciate the feedback. I had found one but it was more than I wanted to spend for a PII ($250)

I'll keep looking for the replacement for this - machine still works well.

BTW - If I get a system Board with the processor - that's all I need right?

Thanks

Option 1:
Get a PMF40002002AA or a PMF36602002AA and change the processor. Nothing else is required.

Option 2:
Get a bottom half of a 600X and change your parts over to it. The System board, processor, DC sub board, memory, modem and bottom plastic case is different than a 600 because of the video out port.

Option 3: Live with it the way it is :? But how much fun is that?

Oh Yeah,

Option 1 should cost about $60.00 to $100.00 on ebay dependind on whether you get a 366 or a 400.

Option 2 should cost ~$240.00 on ebay.

Option 3 Well... you already know that.

TP600E's system board can actually take PIII up to 850MHz running
at 700MHz (SS lower clock), or non-SS 500MHz PIII.
(Thanks pkiff and Sharedoc for this info!)

Take a look at the thread for more detail.
http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4046

So another option you might want to think is to obtain a TP600E system
board, daughter board and a MMC-2 PIII, then put them into your TP600.

One more peice of info.
I heard that TP600X's system board does NOT fit into TP600 body.

I have a 600 with a bad system board!!

:(

I sold my aunt my old IBM 600 and 2 months later the system board died. I feel a little guilty and am trying to help her out.. So if you get a new sys board for your laptop.. do you wanna sell me your old one?
Does anyone know how much that part will average? Don't need anything fancy. It has a pentium II
I would also not be against selling it if someone wanted to salvage it..

Thanks!!

Sadie,

What makes you think the system board is dead? IOW, what are the symptoms?
