570: accessing PC card CD drive for fresh install

I am installing a new hard drive, 20Gb Hitachi, in the 570 and need to make a clean install. I have got the disk formatted and can access it but I cannot access the external PC card CD drive. I have an external floppy drive which works well. I do not have any IBM recovery disks and am using a home made boot disk. I have the IBM PC card drivers and CD drivers but the issue seems to be getting it all loaded and working together.

Can anyone help me get at the CD drive?
