Hey Guy's I just got a 600X off ebay P3500 128mb 10GB. DvD.
and was just re-verifying that it van run someting like 570MB with the latest bios update. I purchaed 2 256Mb sodims for it for $38.00 bucks apeace, it's the standard 8 chip ram.

I was under the impression that the 600X wanted low density 256MB PC100 chips, not just any old 256MB chips. I've only ever used low density ones in mine, so I can't say for sure if others will work or not. Memory maxes out at 576MB in that setup (64 on board + 2x256).
But yes, you can have 576MB total in a 600X. It will take two 256MB LOW density sticks.
Kahlon is selling new 256MB PC100 low density sticks, guaranteed to work, free ground shipping for $66 each. Crucial charges $119 and Lenovo charges $159.
Crap ! I thought only 600 and 600e had to take low density. well I guess I could re-sale them. I saw some low-density ram (2 sticks) for 100.00
(free shipping)
So I guess I'll have to get low-density
So is low-density ram ...(slower). What's the whole deal on that?
The whole deal is that each chip has half as much memory. It's not slower. It should even be cooler... a little.
I have no idea why it should matter at all, but the 440BX memory controller doesn't like chips with so much memory for some reason.
I (being an electrical engineer by training) would think it would be very possible to make a high-density stick appear to be low-density with just a little tweaking, but what do I know?
I know that two used sticks for $90 was a pretty good deal at a local laptop repair shop.
For sale are various parts that were sitting unused or pulled from gently used machines. All of these prices are lower than you'll find on feebay for...
