My current hardrive has XP pro on it.

Do I have to have 2 thinkpads to transfer my files and settings?
I know I can do it with a direct serial cable, but oviousely they both have to have the same hadrive right, I have never done thie Befor.

You want to clone the old drive to the new drive using something like Acronis TrueImage or Norton Ghost.

Probably the easiest way to accomplish this is to get a USB 2.5"drive external enclosure for the new drive, plug it in and clone it, and swap the drives out.

Hello, and thankyou for your reply :)

Any idea where I can get theese programs free? or where I can get them period. I think that if I got an external hardrive then I could just use the XP "files and settings transfer wizard"

Thanks for your help.
