can a 760ELD support a pcmcia 10/100 ethernet connection?

Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

can a 760ELD support a pcmcia 10/100 ethernet connection?

#1 Post by ngtw16a » Wed Jun 30, 2004 1:33 pm

Hello.
I have an thinkpad 760ELD - that I still use--
has cdrom and a 4G HD..running win 98SE...
dial up modem works just fine...

but when I remove the modem put a 3com 10/100 ethernet
pcmcia card in--the hardware will NOT enable--

win98 finds it..but says some sort of controller is not active.

Is it possible to use this hardware on these??

I heard something about busmastering?? Is this required??

any thoughts.....

It sounds as if you need to load both the drivers for the PC Card Services and the Ethernet card.

The PC Card Services Driver should be on the IBM Web Site, under Support, Downloads, Device Driver Matrix, then your model, and scroll down to PC Card.

The drivers for the Ethernet card should be built into Windows 98, but you can also check the 3Com Web Site for newer versions.

You can't use Cardbus cards, but they shouldn't even plug in.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you may be trying to install a cardbus card. . .?

The 760ELD does have a cardbus controller, but you have to install the drivers & enable cardbus in thinkpad confiuration, as I recall.
