Flashing the MB bios

#1 Post by iougs » Fri Sep 16, 2005 2:02 pm

hello all:

I have a i1400 2611-412 ... I am thinking of flashing the motherboard BIOS (IBM site says it need to be done to install win2000) but I am little bit hesitant because ...

I tried to flash the BIOS on the CD-ROM (was recommended by IBM to install win2000 from cd) and now it's not working (the CD-ROM) ...

So is it a safe procedure (assuming I follow the IBM procedure using a floppy)? I really don't want to fry the MB in the process.

Cheers,
iougs-

I don't why a firmware upgrade would damage a CD drive unless it was the wrong firmware. I can say this: If you follow the BIOS upgrade directions (right BIOS, charged battery installed, connected to the AC mains) then on no occasion have I ever seen a machine damaged by a BIOS upgrade. So I think you should be safe (but life is never 100 percent guaranteed). ... JD Hurst
