TransNote CPU upgrade...
Greetings all!
I'm thinking of upgrading my TransNote (model 2675-61U, and yes, the first Tablet PC by IBM) stock 600MHz P-III Mobile CPU to a P-III 850Mhz, or even 1GHz if I can get away with the voltage issues. Suggestions or any help would be greatly appreciated!

Am I smart? Well, it depends on how much you know...
Get your HMM and find out if the TransNote use a CPU module. If it doesn't and the CPU is soldered in, give up.
Second, the TransNote doesn't have SpeedStep, so any PIII faster than 600MHz will run 150MHz slower than its normal clock speed. The fastest PIII with a 100MHz bus that I've heard about is 850MHz, which would run at 700.
The 710T was the first ThinkPad tablet, with a screaming 25MHz 486 and a 60MB hard drive. Anyone remember Windows for Pen Computing?

Whizkid, sorry but the TransNote does have the Intel SpeedStep technology. Also the CPU isn't soldered in, so it is apparently upgradeable but IBM never did it due to lack of demand. The 600Mhz CPU is fast enough for pretty much anything but modern games.
As for doing the upgrade, I have not pursued it as my beloved TransNote is sold.

I looked into this seriously, to the point of buying a new motherboard and a couple of compatible CPUs.Unfortunately, the processors are surface mounted and need special equipment and a healthy chunk of skill to remove and replace, and every quote I got wanted $700-$1000 to do the job, with no guarantee it would work afterwards. In the end I cut my losses and continue to use my t-notes as-is.
