Thinkpad 600 [2645] - windows xp crystal audio hardw trouble

Hi,

I have updated my ThinkPad 600 [2645 / PII 266mhz] to Windows XP PRO
and everything works fine except the audio. You get the (CODE 10) error
in the device manager list.

I have tried many other drivers but can not get the CRYSTAL audio hardware to work.

Is there any solution to this or does one need to stick to WINDOWS 2000?

Many thanks,
All the best

CF

Looking at the driver matrix page, there are XP drivers for some things, but none listed for audio. This makes me think that you aren't going to get it to work. 600 Driver Matrix page

You could get a PCMCIA audio card. I know Creative makes some Audigy PC cards. However, I am not sure your internal speaker will work, as I read one post that said the Creative Audigy card disabled the internal speaker. I would stay away from USB audio, as the 600 only has USB 1.

Hi GomJabbar
many thanks for your reply and idea. Indeed a good solution to use PCMCIA audio.

However I have read some good messages on this subject.
Check these people out:

You have to disable: Crystal WDM MPU-401 compatible midi player

I did also use this file :
Crystal_WDM_Audio_CodecXPSetup to reinstall my audio hardware [either from the IBM website or the
www.cirrus.com/en/support/ website .Search for CS4239 the crystal chip used on the in Thinkpad 600 motherboard]

Many thanks & regards

I have the same problem with my 600e - since upgrading to Win XP, which included having to reformat the hard drive, I find I have no audio.
Uninstalling from device manager then running find new hardware wizard solves the problem, but as soon as I reboot, the audio driver is not found and shows up as missing in device manager. I did not find a solution, and have to go through the rigmarole every time. If anyone can solve this we would all be greatful!

Hi there,
as mentioned in my email the Thinkpad 600 audio works fine in windows xp. Have a look at the above links and step by step.

You have to disable the MIDI. I would also download the driver from the manufacturers website [windows 2000 one].

Not nice but at the end it will work.
All the best
