Hello.
I have a Thinkpad 570, PII 366 MHz, 320MB RAM, 7200 rpm HD, running Windows 2000. Mobmeter says the temperature usually doesn't go over 50C, but the far left part of the laptop (around where the power cord plugs in) gets uncomfortably warm. This happens even when the laptop is sitting idle. I also see on Mobmeter that the CPU frequency is always at 366 MHz. I thought that ACPI laptops would slow down the CPU during times when a lot of processing wasn't needed. ACPI is active in the Device Manager, so that isn't a problem. Is there some way to slow down the CPU so that it doesn't get as hot?
Thanks.

Thinkpad 570 awfully warm
I'm sorry to say that there is no way to slow down a PII... not standardly, anyway. IBM could have put in circuitry to slow down the clock (they did it long ago with the 486), but you'd have to have a driver.
I have a 570 as well, but it's running Linux, and I haven't found a way to slow the CPU.

i used to find my 600e 366mhz pII heated up ALOT, but then i upgraded from Win2000 to XP and badaboom, the proccessor became as cool as a cucumber. no idea why! but my 600e went form being a fan heater to a periodic hand cooler when i played the odd video or flight sim!:)
