Ah well, it had to happen - the original 4 GB IBM HDD in my Jan 1998 vintage 560X has become unusable.

Luckily I have an unused Bill Morrow -supplied Toshiba 18GB unit lying around that - so far - is unused.

How easy will it be for me it to use that instead?

[I am not all that happy simply to consign the 560X to the junk-heap, the rest of it works OK].

Somewhere I even have the original IBM recovery CD-ROM (as well as an IBM external CD drive).

Would I be better off looking to use something else, e.g. a different OS (either different Win version or even experiment with Linux?) from the Win98 that came originally?

Hi,
My 560X 4GB HDD died last week. :( Would like to know how successful you were with the replacement. Did you run into any upper bounds on the usable area?
Hope you didn't. I'm a poor student and I'm kind of attatched to this machine. (It's lovable, isn't it?)

I received no other replies since my original post - so have not yet tried the HDD transplant.

(I am using an A21 in the meantime - also with a Morrow-supplied disk!)
