770e won´t boot after install win2000

befor install win2000 the think work well with win98
after that it only work in dos
The repairguy says a part of memory owing for windows is broken? Memory for this funktion has his serial number written in bios and can´t be substitute with used one . Sorry but i can´t trust this arguments .
Am i wrong or not ? Have somebody experience with this problem?

I don't have a 770 (yet), but if it is like the 600 series, you need to make sure that you have an updated BIOS. The released updates to work with Windows 2000, and then later for Windows XP.
