Replacing the HDD of a 770x

#1 Post by tattaloop » Thu Nov 17, 2005 7:48 am

My HDD is running out of space. I have a 770x-7B0. I got the HDD out and thereon is a label which says 4G, FRU12J0426, FRU12J1973, FRU12J1970.

Can the nice wizards please enlighten me as to which HDD is compatible, what FRU, and would the BIOS need replacing?

4G is tooo small. You can choose any harddisk for your laptop. I recommend you choose a Hitachi 5k100 40Gb harddisk. 770X maybe not support large harddisk. Please use Hitachi tools: Hitachi(IBM) Feature Tool 1.97 For Win9x/NT4/2000/XP/DOS

I don't know much about laptops. This HDD does not look like one in a desktop PC. The plug on the HDD is on the long side, not where it is on desktop PC HDDs, and it plugs directlly into a socket inside the computers body, no ribbon lead.

Also, I keep reading about this thing called a caddy. Is it relevent to me?

Yes, 770x has a harddisk caddy. Please put it off and you can see the laptop harddisk. you can change to a new one.
