Value of DEVA on 770Z?

Greetings all, from a sometime lurker now first-time poster,
I've been the proud owner of a 770Z for almost 3 years. It's more or less stock except it's up to 448MB RAM, running XP. I've got parts for a PIII-800 conversion on the way, but that's a different topic.
My question is this: with the system I've described above, would there be any advantage to be gained by adding a DEVA to this machine? I was under the impression that the 770Z didn't need the DEVA since it has the 9397DVD video adapter, but I note that I have a slot for one here. So what's the point of adding one? Does this Dolby-out port serve as an auxiliary audio-out? Will it improve my video performance in general, or only when playing DVDs, or indeed not at all? I'm a bit confused as to what it does, aside from adding TV-in and -out ports.
Any advice would be appreciated.
