OK then here is the problem...I just bought a 570 off Ebay, it does not have the ultrabay dock with it sooooo....I bought a usb cd-rom drive on Ebay...I have not recieved either the drive or the laptop yet but have been wondering if I am going to be able to use this. I am thinking I can use the external floppy drive I have from my tp600 to boot the 570 using a boot disk, once booted I can use the software disk for the usb drive and finally from that install my OS. Does all this sound feasable to anyone?
thanks

I am pretty sure that would work. I haven't done it on a 570, but I have done it on other models that didn't have CD-Roms.

Well the only other solution I can think of would be to remove the harddrive from the 570 and put it in the 600...install my OS there and then replace it into the 570 and let it make any changes from there. Do you think that might work also....at least until I can find a ultrabase for the right price?

What OS?
XP Pro will most likely update everything on the restart, but older versions of an OS might not be as friendly.

Most likley will be XP, but I have done that with a laptop before running ME and it worked OK...after It update everything it could from what was on the hardddrive I just had to insert the cd for it to finish or upgrade a few drivers individually. Thanks for the input.

You should be ok.
Side Note: I have had problems doing this with Win98SE, but I haven't done it with WinME. WinME is my LEAST favorite OS ever made, so I stay away from it.

I get that alot, but I never had any problems with it....seemed to be more stable than 98 and didn't have the higher requirements of XP....plus it has the system restore feature....I have kids who get on my computer and are constantly screwing things up....I go to restore and everything is back to normal.

The 600-series floppy connects directly to the 570 and will boot just fine. You can make a DOS disk with your USB CD driver on it and away you go.
