howto firmware upgrade on a flat battery!

Hello,
I dont know if this is common knowledge or not - i think not, so bear with me!
I have some 570's and 390x models i wanted to flash to latest level -> no can do because of old flat batteries!
I searched around the web for an easy solution not counting buying new batteries. i did not find anything really good. then i looked at the update diskettes:
Seems there is some bogus scripting language employed for the update menus, and right in the comments it states *press ScrLk to bypass battery check* - lo and behold holding down scroll-lock while pressing enter or 'y' or whatnot the last time - it just installs the firmware without checking the battery!
This might be some sort of convention and work for other models also??
Best regards,
Jesper
