IBM Thinkpad 560x - boot up Problem -Help Please!

Hi Guys,
I have a bit of a problem I thought you might be able to help.
I recently brought an old Thinkpad 560x, a bit of a fossil I know but it worked fine for a couple of weeks until one day when I got it out of the cupboard, switched it on and waited for it to boot up, nothing happened, well the lights came on and you could hear the hard drive starting but then it stops.
Nothing on the screen, no P.O.S.T no nothing. Now I don't think it's a problem with the screen not showing stuff, because the laptop isn't booting up and I have tried it on an external monitor. When it was working OK the hard drive would be clunking away for a good 3-4 mins untill fully booted.
And if the hard drive was shot then you should still be able to see P.O.S.T or at the very least get into the BIOS right? Could it be the RAM? or has anybody else out there got any other ideas what the problem could be? Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciate
Thanks
Jango
