Generic windows 2000 pro on TP 600

I installed windows 2000 pro on my 2645-51U using a microsoft disc, not an IBM restore disk.
I installed all the drivers I found in the driver matrix but I don't have an Access IBM folder in the startup menu with fuel, battery maximizer, battery health, etc. Also I don't have the green battery icon by the taskbar.
How do I get these things installed? What am I missing? Is there more for me to install? Does the 600 even have this stuff?
Other than that it seems to run well.

I think you somehow missed installing Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features for Windows. Make sure you also install ThinkPad Configuration Utility.

I have both of those and I installed them in the correct order.
I can find the TP config utility but none of the battery features.

Remove ThinkPad Configuration, restart, then install Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features and TP Configuration. Make sure BM is installed in the same folder as TP Configuration.

OK, I removed the TP Configuration utility and Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features.
Rebooted and then I re-downloaded the tpbmpm1k.exe and uttpcw32.exe files from IBM.
When I ran them they extracted into the C:\DRIVERS\WIN\BMMPM folders and the C:\DRIVERS\W9x\UTILITY folders respectively.
I first installed Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features into the C:\Program files\ThinkPad\Utilities folder using the C:\DRIVERS\WIN\BMMPM\setup.exe file.
Rebooted again and installed the TP Configuration utility into the C:\Program files\ThinkPad\Utilities folder using the C:\DRIVERS\W9x\UTILITY\setup.exe file.
The readme file also indicates that this is the proper order in which to install these.
Now under Start\Programs\Access IBM I have:
ThinkPad Configuration Help and ThinkPad Configuration, nothing else. No green battery by the system tray, no battery health.
Where did I err or is this how it is supposed to be?

You did it in the right order. It's really weird. It supposed to be there. If you run ThinkPad Configuration, under Power Management, do you have Battery MaxiMiser Wizard and Battery Information?

Nope, just "settings". That takes me to the windows power management settings page.

What about the files starting with BBM and BAT in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities? Do you see any of these? Are you logged in as admin?

As for files starting with BBM and BAT in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities, I do not see any.

I run as a user with admin priveledges.

That means Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features is not installed on your TP at all... Or it was installed into another folder. But C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities is the default folder. I ran out of ideas. Sorry.

600 Series under Win 2000 only supports certain functions

The various Battery Maximizer and Power Management utilities are not all compatible with the 600 series or with Windows 2000. In particular, the "Battery Maximizer" thingy and the in-depth "Battery Information" utility are not supported on the 600 series.

Here's the relevant section from the "Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features for Windows" page G-Man linked to in the first reply:
IV. Summary of supported programs, machines, and operating systems

ThinkPad Power Property
Supported on all machines
Not supported on Windows NT 4.0

Battery MaxiMiser program
Not supported on ThinkPad 5xx, 6xx, 7xx, i-1157
Not supported on Windows 95/NT 4.0

Battery Information program
Not supported on ThinkPad 5xx, 6xx, 7xx, i-1157
Supported on all operating systems

Fuel-Gauge program
Supported only on ThinkPad 5xx, 6xx, 7xx, i-1157
Not supported on Windows 98/98SE/Me/2000/XP ACPI system
On my 600X running Windows 98SE, the only thing that gets installed when I run this downloaded exe are the additional tabs in the Power Mangement section of the Control Panel and the Fuel Gauge program. The Fuel Gauge program is not compatible with systems running in ACPI mode, and that might prevent it too from being installed on your system, leaving you only with the additional ThinkPad specific tabs in the Power Management section of your Control Panel to show for the whole install.

That's correct. Officially they are not supported, at least not with the release of Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features that IBM recommends for these systems. But I have figured out a way to circumvent the problems. Cf. my latest posting:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

In order to get the Battery MaxiMiser working, you have to install a different build of the Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features software package, one that has been published for another range of ThinkPad systems:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-44224

Actually this revision of Battery MaxiMiser doesn't even need a ThinkPad computer to run on, I currently also have it working successfully on a Compaq Presario 1600XL-155...

However, with this software package you still won't get the enhanced battery information, but MobileMeter is a quite good substitute for that, it will let you read out the design, full charge and current capacity, for instance:

Duh. Forgot to log me in, stupid. It was me, Monty.

Anyhow, I hope you find that information given by me above at least a bit useful.
